Zaniya was shot and killed by her boyfriend.

He told police his finger was on the trigger when he was attempting to take the gun apart and it fired at that time, striking Zaniya.

He told police it was an accident and the two were not arguing at the time. He told authorities the two were in a relationship for about two and a half years and he would “never do anything to intentionally hurt her.”

After he shot her, Clark told police he kissed Booker and told her he loved her, before leaving the home.

Zaniya was a mother to a 7-month-old daughter. 

Family members described her as a “beautiful soul” who loved being a mother. She looked forward to graduating from high school.
